Do you have a passion for the marine environment and the amazing creatures that live in it? Want to get involved in a community science project to help monitor a critically important species in the Salish Sea? Hakai Institute is looking for volunteer help from the qathet community to collect valuable data on baby Dungeness crabs using light traps.

If you enjoy getting your hands wet and would like to engage with other community scientists and volunteer to help monitor the life found in your local waters, we would love to hear from you! Light trap monitoring will begin April 15th 2023 and run until September. Equipment, training and support will be provided throughout!

Seedy Saturday will be back in full swing in March 2023! Seedy Saturday is an annual event that promotes growing and saving of local seed. Learn about the use of open-pollinated and heritage seeds, swap at the local seed exchange, and learn about seed saving and environmentally responsible gardening practices. 

They are in need of help for organizing the event. You can help with: 

- Asking for donations for our silent auction
- Helping with the seed packing party – held on an evening in February
- Organizing the book donations and the books we already have on hand
- Reaching out to knowledgeable gardeners to hold workshops
- Organizing the children’s zone and running it on the day
- Greeting participants on the day of the event
- Putting out signs
- Distributing posters
- Helping in general!
